Finding your true skin

Most of my clients ask me about their skin, they complain that it looks dull or lifeless. It always surprises them when I say how easy it is to achieve perfect skin. There are literally hundreds of companies out there, and hundreds of products, and the easiest and most effective way to get glowing skin is with 3 easy steps. Cleanse, exfoliate and retinol, and of course to protect your beautiful new skin, I always advise you use a high quality SPF.

Cleanse and exfoliate

Using a cleanser with salicylic acid, glycolic acid or a gentle cleanser if you are sensitive is the first step.Cleansers will remove oil, surface impurities and make up. If you are wearing make up then double cleanse, you need to work your cleanser into your skin for 60 seconds, and you need to do this twice a day. I promise if you were to do nothing else, this first step will even show an improvement in impurities on the surface of your skin. Removing oil helps with most skin issues! Then a good exfoliator is key, this will help to resurface the upper layers of your skin gently. It will also ensure that you are removing any build up of dead skin cells. At True Skin I stock the Aestheticare cleansers. I advise you use either a gentle cleanser daily, and the exfoliating scrub or glycolic & salicylic acid cleanser a few times a week in the evenings. It take a few weeks to see a full improvement, but most clients feel their skin looks fresher and healthier very quickly.

Retinoic Acid/ Retinol

I can't say it enough, there is really only one cream or serum that you need to give your complexion a boost, and that is Retinoic Acid or Retinol.

Retinoic Acid is a prescription only product which is excellent, and used in connection with other treatments to treat more complex skin issues.

Retinol is a derivative of Retinoic acid and is only available from a trained nurse or aesthetician. Retinol penetrates the upper layers of the skin and helps speed up cell turn over,  it helps to firm and even skin tone, it helps fade marks left from blemishes on the skin, and also can help with light pigmentation. My chosen Retinol to stock here is Retriderm. Retriderm was recently featured in the BBC documentary The Truth about looking Good and was found to be the most effective treatment to help you stay young. Retinol is suitable for most skin types, and I advise my clients to use their retionol at night after cleansing. It will take some time for your skin to build tolerance to retinol, but if you stick with it you will really see the results.

SPF

Did you know skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in Ireland, with over 10,000 new cases each year. SPF applied regularly is essential, Heliocare is my spf of choice. Heliocare is lightweight and oil free, and it makes a great make up base.

"The Heliocare 360Ëš range provides unrivalled protection against UVA, UVB, visible light and infrared-A with a combination of broad-spectrum sun protection filters that work at the surface of the skin, and super anti-oxidant Fernblock FC that works within it to help stop the production of free radicals" (courtesy of Aestheticare)

I have researched the skincare regime I wanted to stock for the better part of a year. I wanted to give my clients the best value for their money, I stripped it back to the essentials, keeping the products I stock affordable. You honestly don't need anything else in your daily routine than what I have selected. If you need to target other issues, there are other products that I stock, but I will use these on an as needed basis. It really is as simple as these easy steps to find your true skin!
